What
is it thou hast seen?
Prizes
for the Mirehouse Poetry Prize are: £350 with the prize-winning
poem and eight highly commended poems being displayed on the Mirehouse
Poetry Walk and on the website.
The eight highly commended poets will also receive a £100 box of
new books.
A reading of all nine poems will be arranged at a special event with Grevel
Lindop at Mirehouse on Saturday March 7,2009, at 11.30am
.
Entries are invited for original poems of no more than 40 lines.
Entry fee is £4 per poem.
To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Tennyson’s birth the theme
is a quote from Morte d’Arthur which was partly written
at Mirehouse: “What is it thou hast seen? or what hast heard?”
Entrants may submit as many poems as they wish. Two copies of each poem
must be submitted. No entry should have been accepted for publication,
read on radio/television or stage or have been awarded a prize in any
other competition.
The Mirehouse Poetry Prize has been given to celebrate Mirehouse’s
longstanding literary connections with writers including Wordsworth, Southey,
Tennyson, FItzgerald, Carlyle and Thackeray.
