Newnham College was founded in 1871 to promote academic excellence for
women, and this is still our goal. With some 620 students and academic staff,
Newnham is a thriving intellectual
community in its own right and a superb springboard for all that
Cambridge University has to offer.
Victorian architect Basil Champneys' vision of a college for women still
inspires (our dining hall is among the most beautiful in Cambridge).
The College is a stone's throw from most University Humanities
departments and a short walk from Science departments and the City Centre.
