Christopher John Dean − 1932-2012

Chairman, Dorothy L Sayers Society, 1994-2012

It is devastating to report that Christopher died shortly before noon on 16th March 2012, in hospital in Haywards Heath, Sussex. He put up a long fight against illness which eventually claimed him and he leaves those of us who knew him finding it difficult to imagine what life will be like without him. Our best wishes and prayers are with his beloved family.

A thanksgiving service for his life was held in the church of St John the Baptist, Clayton, Sussex, near to where he lived with Christine. He is buried in a hillside green burial site above the village of Clayton, in view of his beloved South Downs in Sussex.

Members will receive their May Bulletin (number 221) shortly, which will contain many tributes from those who knew him, a short report of the thanksgiving service held in his memory and further information about future events. Much of this will also appear on this web site in due course.

Message from Our President:

Our Society has suffered a tragic loss in the death of Christopher Dean, our excellent Chairman. His illness was prolonged and mysterious, even to the doctors, and we have all grieved in our anxiety. Both Christopher and Christine have been invaluable leaders and the Society has progressed enormously under their help. We send our deepest sympathy to Christine and to their family.

Barbara Reynolds, President

Message from Our Patron:

None of the members of the Dorothy L Sayers Society will ever forget what we owe to dear Christopher, and I know that he would wish us all to remember the part played by Christine. At every meeting I have attended since I have been a member of the Society I have been made glad by the presence of Christine, always there to greet us and support her husband, it seemed to me that Christopher and Christine were the Dorothy L Sayers Society.
