Our annual Convention takes place in August at the University of York. The Convention will celebrate 100 years since the publication of Clouds of Witness, the second novel by Sayers featuring Lord Peter Wimsey. It is set in Yorkshire, hence our choice of the University of York. Speakers will include David Rooney, author of The Big Hop, about the history of transatlantic flight, and Dr Jen Smith from the Ryedale Rural Folk Museum, speaking on the novel’s setting. We will attend Evensong in York Minster. There will also be a reading of Sayers’ poem ‘War Cat’ in French. Talks and discussion by members will be on DLS and CS Lewis, artistic truth, trials in the House of Lords and a discussion of Charles Parker and Lady Mary Wimsey. There will be a performed reading of excerpts from Clouds of Witness and our Archivist, Alison Hall, will present some of the gems to be found in the Society’s archive.
